NYPD and Frat Brothers Among Those Protecting American Flag

Recently, we’ve seen a troubling trend on college campuses across America, where respect for our national symbols is being trampled under the guise of political protests. Take, for instance, the incidents at City College in New York and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where American flags were replaced with Palestinian flags by anti-Israel protesters. This symbolic act of replacing our flag is not just disrespectful; it’s an assault on the values those stars and stripes stand for.

In New York, after the protesters had removed the American flag and hoisted a Palestinian flag, the NYPD intervened. Officers stood at the flagpole base, removed the usurper flag, and restored the American flag to its rightful place, a moment caught on video that should be applauded for its assertion of our national dignity.

Meanwhile, down in Chapel Hill, the scene was even more chaotic. After the American flag was re-raised at the University of North Carolina, protesters attempted to tear it down again. It was here that a group of fraternity brothers exemplified what it means to be patriots. As the protesters tried to lower the flag, these young men stood firm, literally holding the flag aloft to prevent it from touching the ground amidst a barrage of thrown objects and insults. Their act of standing for the anthem and defending the flag under such hostile conditions is a poignant reminder of the deep divisions affecting our nation’s youth.

The scenes unfolding on our college campuses are nothing short of appalling. We’re witnessing a brazen display of “death to America” chants and the desecration of our beloved American flag, clear signs that a substantial segment of our college population holds deep-seated animosity towards this nation and the values we hold dear. This is more than just youthful rebellion; it’s a grim indicator of radical ideologies taking root, ideologies that threaten to fracture the very unity that binds us.

What’s the endgame here? How far will this descent into anti-American fervor go? It’s a stark reminder that the radical ideas fermenting in our institutions are not just passing phases but serious threats to our national cohesion. These incidents should serve as a wake-up call to educational institutions and society at large about the critical need to foster a sense of patriotism and respect for our nation’s symbols.

If we continue down this path, allowing our country’s flag to be dishonored and our values to be disregarded, we risk losing the very essence of what it means to be American. We must demand better from our educational institutions and from each other. It’s high time that college campuses return to being places where intellectual diversity flourishes without descending into hostility and where the American flag can fly proudly without fear of being torn down.
